We Speak Traditions, Tourism and Arts

You are most heartily welcomed to this website of the Edo Traditions, Tourism and Arts Society (ETTAS).

We are, together, hereby embarking on a communication-filled journey into the Nigerian (with Edo State as catchment area) and African cultural worlds which, in the past and present millennia, have had values; practices, arts and performances unique to the indigenous communities of these parts of the modern world, already known as “a global village”.

Our peculiar focus is the sharing of ideas, skills and knowledge, such as those highlighted in the U.N.’s “World’s Indigenous People” Division messages on August 9, 2011.

We are becoming an additional path to knowledge about individual/group behavior; reconciling our cultural present with the past and future, and thus helping to promote international understanding; friendship, human dignity and peaceful co-existence, through cultural awareness and co-operation across the globe.

We share the view that “…tradition refers to any human practice, belief, institution or artefact which is handled from one generation to the next (and) typically refers to some element of culture regarded as part of the common inheritance of a social group….” (from Penguin Dictionary of Sociology).

There is, therefore, so much to learn; so much to discover, share and broadcast, with the love and goodwill of others not taken for granted, during this journey into cultural knowledge; traditions, the Arts and Tourism, which we regard as inter-related phenomena today, and even “yesterday”.

The following pages – Cultural Heritages; Events, External Affairs, Feature Stories, News, Opinion, and Projects, offer our visitors (you!) multi – dimensional and multi-professional perspectives on Traditions, Tourism and the Arts.

All of these have characterized the indigenous people in this evergreen part of the universe for tons of centuries.

As members of what we can call a cultural and development club with a common bond, we say: Let us go!

Best wishes, and thank you for coming on board!!!
